How to Build an Email Marketing List Fast


Easy ways to grow your email list fast

I’m sure you’ve probably heard that the money is in the list. In fact, I’m willing to bet that’s why you’re reading this article right now. And because you know the money’s in the list, you want to know how to build an email marketing list fast.

If that’s the case, then you’re already a step ahead of the majority of bloggers and affiliate marketers, which is awesome.

Building an email marketing list is one of the keys to success as an affiliate marketer, blogger or small business owner.

Having permission to send an message directly to someone’s inbox can be incredibly powerful. You might not know this, but the average person checks their email inbox about 15 times per day!

So you know that you want to build an email marketing list, and you know you want to do it fast. 

The first thing you’re going to need is an autoresponder. An autoresponder is a service that you set up to automatically send emails to people when they subscribe to your list. 

This is where you’ll be storing all your subscribers email addresses, and creating your sequences, email broadcasts, etc. 

#1 Recommended Email Autoresponder

There are countless autoresponders, but the autoresponder I use and recommend is Aweber

I’ve tried a number of different autoresponders including Mailchimp, Convertkit, Mad Mimi, Convertkit, Get Response and Mailerlite, but Aweber is by far my favorite.

Like all autoresponders, there is a learning curve with Aweber. Having said that, if you’ve been using a different autoresponder and have some experience, then you’ll find that Aweber is very easy to use. 

For complete newbies, it might seem daunting when you first log into your Aweber account, so make sure you read through the vast documentation and tutorials that Aweber has written. This is how I mastered Aweber.

Another reason I love Aweber is because they offer a very generous FREE 30-day trial, and once your trial is complete, Aweber has a very reasonable pricing plan:

  • 0-500 subscribers – $19/month
  • 501-2500 subscribers – $29/month
  • 2501-5000 subscribers – $49/month
  • 5001-10,000 subscribers – $69/month
  • 10,001-25,000 subscribers – $149/month
  • 25,000 subscribers – Contact Aweber for a quote

When you’re first getting started, you’ll only be paying $19/month until you break the 500 subscribers mark. This is very affordable.

How to Build an Email Marketing List Fast

Once you’ve got your autoresponder set up, it’s time to start building your email marketing list.

There are various methods for building your email list, including organic (free) methods and paid methods. 

The video below outlines my favorite free and paid methods for growing your email list fast. 

Word of warning – when it comes to paid list building strategies, you should NEVER purchase an entire email list from anyone. 

This is highly unethical and very likely to be illegal. 

Not only that, it’s a complete waste of money. The majority of email addresses will be either fake “bot” addresses or people who did not consent to being emailed from you and will either ignore your emails or mark you as spam.

#1 – Promote Everywhere

This is the first, and probably most obvious tip for growing your email marketing list fast, but it’s something that I notice a lot of people DON’T do.

I’ve actually asked a few people why they aren’t promoting their email list everywhere and the #1 response I get is this:

“I’m nervous about people signing up for my list”

If that sounds like you, don’t be nervous!

Remember, people are only going to subscribe to your list if they WANT to. You’re not forcing anyone to subscribe, which means that there’s nothing to be nervous about. 

If someone subscribes to your list and decides they’re not longer interested in your content, they can easily unsubscribe.

#2 – Embed Signup Forms

Every single blog post you write should have an embedded signup form.

#3 – Use a Popup

Yes, popups can be annoying. 

However, the truth is that popups can be great for growing your email list fast (which is why they’re still highly used, despite being irritating to some people.)

If you do decide to use a popup it’s important to remember the following:

  • Don’t display your popup on mobile, otherwise you may receive a penalty from Google 
  • Make sure people can easily close the popup
  • Only ever have ONE popup per page
  • Don’t set the popup to appear instantly

#4 – Set an Entry Question on FB

If you have a Facebook group, did you know that you can set up to 3 entry questions that people are required to answer if they want to be added to your group?

I have a free Facebook groupand I have an entry question set u asking potential members if they’d like to be added to my email list. 

I would say approximately 80% of people say yes and enter their email address, making this an effective way to grow your email list.

#5 – Link Everywhere

Once you’ve gotten over the fear of having people subscribe to your list, you should be linking to it everywhere you can think of.

This includes:

  • Your blog posts
  • Relevant pages (your “About” page, for example)
  • In your Instagram bio
  • Your Facebook group (make a “pinned post” with a link to your opt-in form
  • Your YouTube video descriptions

#6 – Create Awesome Freebies

Offering your site visitors a valuable freebie can explode your email list.

Gone are the days where people would willingly enter their email address just to “stay updated.”

People are a lot more wary of giving out their email address now, and they expect something valuable in return.

Try to create opt-in freebies (also called “lead magnets”) that will be desirable to your audience and highly relevant to your content.

#7 – Use Solo Ads

If you’re in the make money online/internet marketing niche, then solo ads can be a fast way to grow your email list. 

A solo ad is basically where you pay someone with a large email address to send out an email blast to their list, promoting your opt-in page.

When you purchase a solo ad, you’re paying “per click” NOT per subscriber. The solo ad vendor will deliver the amount of “clicks” – i.e. visitors to your opt-in page that you ordered, but it’s up to you to have a well-designed opt-in page with a valuable offer so you can convert those “clicks” into subscribers.

Udimi is an online marketplace where you can purchase solo ads.

Caution– I recommend starting slowly with solo ads. Do a trial run of 100 clicks to test the waters first. If you get a good opt-in rate and start seeing some affiliate sales, then you can start to scale up.
